Issued in Mexico on the orders of Bartholome de Ledesma, with blank spaces for names of local authorities; rare example of early Mexican printing.

Spanish. Translation of the bull "Si de protegendis", originally issued 1569, asserting papal protection of inquisitorial witnesses and recognition of rights pertaining to familiars and officials; it is unclear when or where this copy was printed. Cf. INQ208, INQ214.

Spanish. Royal notice to the viceroy and other officials of Aragon concerning agreements reached with the Inquisitions of Aragon, Valencia, Catalonia, etc. on jurisdiction and limits on privileges for inquisitorial officers following the 1564 cortes of Monzón and a report by Francisco de Soto Salazar. The full text of the resulting "capitulos y decretos" determined by Inquisitor General Diego de Spinosa are included.

Spanish. Edict reminding confessors of inquisitorial jurisdiction over various sins and doctrinal errors, which cannot be otherwise absolved.

Spanish. Edict forbidding inquisitorial officials from publically disparaging the lineage (limpieza) of others, due to the resentment this generates toward the inquisition.

Spanish. Edict repeating the 1633 order to read papal bulls relating to the inquisition in all monasteries. Particular note is made of pope Gregory XV's 1622 brief on cases of solicitation in the confessional; such cases fall under inquisitorial jurisdiction. Confirmation of this should be added to annual readings of Edicts of Faith etc. Contains signature. Cf. INQ228, INQ229, INQ326.

Spanish. Ornate gothic-style indulgence certificate, issued with papal authority by Inquisitor General de Sotomayor and filled in for a petitioner.

Spanish. Edict recalling papal approval of the Jesuit Order, and condemning certain anti-Jesuit propositions as heretical. Contains signatures and wax seal.

Sotomayor, Antonio de "Nos Don Frai Antonio ... Madrid: 1635. Inquisition 229

Spanish. Edict repeating the 1633 order to read papal bulls relating to the inquisition in all monasteries. Particular note is made of pope Gregory XV's 1622 brief on cases of solicitation in the confessional; such cases fall under inquisitorial jurisdiction. Since then certain writings have emerged to the contrary; these are now condemned. Contains signature but no wax seal. Cf. INQ226, INQ228, INQ326.
