Royal notice to the viceroy and other officials of Aragon concerning agreements reached with the Inquisitions of Aragon, Valencia, Catalonia, etc. on jurisdiction and limits on privileges for inquisitorial officers following the 1564 cortes of Monzón and a report by Francisco de Soto Salazar. The full text of the resulting "capitulos y decretos" determined by Inquisitor General Diego de Spinosa are included.

Particular note is made of pope Gregory XV's 1622 brief on cases of solicitation in the confessional; such cases fall under inquisitorial jurisdiction. Latin. Letter from the pope to Inquisitor General Andrès Pacheco, encouraging diplomatic relations with England through the Prince of Wales [Charles I, r. 1625-1649], in hopes that his marriage to a Catholic might lead to a rapprochement with Rome.

Spanish. Edict repeating the 1633 order to read papal bulls relating to the inquisition in all monasteries. Particular note is made of pope Gregory XV's 1622 brief on cases of solicitation in the confessional; such cases fall under inquisitorial jurisdiction. Spanish. Publication of a 1792 notice authorizing consumption of meat during Lent, in accordance with a papal indult of 1791. Alms are to be collected for the poor in exchange for this privilege; the rate of payment is divided into four classes. Most Indians, Blacks, Meztizos, day laborers and mendicant friars, etc. are allowed to give prayers in lieu of monetary payment. Contains wax seal and notarial marks.

Spanish. Collection of documents relating to the abolition of the inquisition, apparently dating to 1813 and purchased by a priest of Arganda named José Garcia Armesto. Included are 5 printed proclamations (some with signatures) from the regency Cortes on reform of religious life in Spain, including abolition of the inquisition while retaining punishments for heresy. Manuscript copies of instructions follow, with various signatures, explaining how measures are to be implemented in local parishes.
